Pilates has given me so much appreciation for stability and strength within the body. I had been practicing and teaching Yoga, alongside Dance, for so long but I wanted to continue to broaden my movement practices. I fell in love with way in which Pilates teaches the body to find control and subtle movements that really work the deeper muscles. The way in which the spine and abdominals are targeted in the Pilates work is so beneficial for everyone, no matter the age or experience. I appreciate the anatomical references and how Pilates can be utilized for injuries and rehabilitation purposes, but also an amazing full body burn!
The mat work is really great but I also love the creativity that can be found with the Reformer. I like to incorporate some of the Yoga experience I have and make my classes unique. The use of props is also really great in helping to achieve more targeted areas of the body.
I trained in Stott Pilates but I also like to continue to incorporate my own ideas into my classes and programs for students. I believe that every body needs something specific and I try to create and offer something unique for my students, whether that is in a class setting or a one on one session. Sometimes I focus more on the classical elements of Pilates and sometimes I use a more contemporary approach.
